These cupcakes were an experiment. My boyfriend asked if it was possible to create some kind of coffee cupcake and this is the result. I thought it would be neat to decorate it to kind of look like a cappuccino with the frothy stuff on top. I decided a hazelnut coffee would go well with chocolate cupcake. I substituted the coffee for the water in the cake recipe and I was surprised at how well it turned out. I used Cool Whip to frost the cupcakes only because that's what I had at the time. Next time I want to use actual whipped cream. The cupcakes are sprinkled with toasted hazelnut and cinnamon. I used chocolate sticks because I thought it would look cool and give the cupcake a more 'coffee' look, sort of like those chocolate coffee stirs people use. They tasted really good! Next time I want to try a hot chocolate cupcake.
